We are located in the heart of Cowee Valley. From Highway 28 follow  Cowee Creek
road to the Leatherman Gap fork. Bear right onto Ruby MIne Road and follow
approximately 1.5 miles to the Community Center/Firehouse on your right.

CCDO Member Goals/Status:
Short Term Goals:
  • Scenic Byway designation for Highway 28     Complete
  • Implement Mountain Landscape Initiative Tool Box
  • Cowee Trails   (underway)                                             
  • Complete restoration of Post Office in West's Mill
  • Create mass mailing to all Cowee Township residents inviting them
    to participate in CCDO and provide help and support with our goals.

  • Establish fund raising goals (ongoing)
  • Get more young people involved in CCDO (ongoing)
  • Get members of the community to volunteer at local schools
  • Develop and provide welcome package for new residents         
  • Create events committee (Complete)
  • Provide after school activities for children
  • Meet with property owners in the Historic District to seek their
    support for ongoing preservation (Ongoing)

Long Term Goals:

  • Work to establish better public access in Cowee to the Little
    Tennessee River  (Ongoing)
  • Continue exploration of the acquisition of Cowee School (Ongoing)
  • Restoration of the Heart of the Historic District
  • Historical Designation Signs/Property Plaques Complete
  • Work with Historical District Property Owners/Cleanup
  • Establish Community Land Use Planning
